How to Align IEPs with Standards: Using Common Sense With the Common Core
Available as a Summer Institute by Carol Kosnitsky
In this very hands-on, 3-day training, participants will delve into specific tools and strategies they can use with Common Core State Standards to ensure that students with disabilities have access to challenging curriculum. Content will include:
- Tips on how to do a “close read” of the standards and how to identify major instructional shifts;
- Tools that guide a “gap analysis” between students’ actual and expected performance;
- Guidelines for writing standards-based IEP goals that are relevant to the student;
- Strategies to strengthen general and special education collaboration through the principles of Universal Design for Learning.
The institute will include in-depth presentations and small-group guided practice in the gap analysis and IEP writing process. All participants should bring 2-3 IEPs so authentic planning can take place.
