IEP Boot Camp PreK-22: Using Data to Improve Teaching and Learning
Available as a Summer Institute by Carol Kosnitsky
This Institute can be offered over 4 days in the summer (4 modules), 4 days throughout the school year (4 modules), or as 1-day workshops based on 1 module each.
Designing high-quality IEPs can be a daunting process with many moving parts. This in-depth 4-day Institute will provide participants with all the tools they need to develop IEPs that “tell each student’s story” and emphasize effective use of data to monitor and report progress. The 4-day Institute will include the following modules:
- Write Present Levels: Telling the Right Story in the IEP
- Write and Monitor IEP Goals: Taking FAPE across the Finish Line
- Standards-based IEPs: Aligning Relevant IEP Goals
- Level the Playing Field: Writing Relevant and Feasible Accommodations
At the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Collect and synthesize all data necessary to develop a plan;
- Develop relevant student profiles including student strengths, the impact of the disability, and current performance levels;
- Utilize data to create measurable goals, monitor progress, and make data-driven instructional decisions;
- Align the IEP to grade-level standards;
- Increase student, parent, and teacher engagement in the IEP process; and
- Plan appropriate instructional and assessment accommodations.
Participants will actively reflect upon the IEPs they have written, make revisions, and practice the alignment process throughout the 4-day Institute.
Target Audience: special education teachers and administrators
