A Quick Little Way to Intercept a Behavior Escalation

Watch this video [1:12] to learn a quick, quiet little way to intercept a behavior escalation.
If I have a child who I know escalates, and I can see those warning signs, because I’m in tune with her behavior, if I see her starting, here’s what I might do with a kiddo like that.
I take an envelope, if I know that I can trust her, if she’s in a good place, if she has not escalated yet, and I might say to her, “Oh, Jan, I forgot to send this down to the office. Could you bring that down for me? I’ll let them know you’re coming.”
I call up the office, “Jan’s coming down to deliver a paper.”
She goes down. Then she comes back. I’ve intercepted an escalation from happening.
There’s nothing in that envelope, nothing but a little smiley face sticker. The office is in on it.
If I can proactively intercept a behavior, absolutely, I’ll do it every time.
