Don’t ever try to reason with a child who’s escalated. It doesn’t work. They have to go through the arousal cycle. Everyone does when they’re angry. They have to come back down again. That’s when I can do something.

I get the child back in my room and I say, “Hey, you know what? When you were out yesterday here’s what you missed.” I want to bring her back into the fold. That’s not easy. It’s not easy at all.
