Polly Bath: In-School Suspension. In-School Suspension should be a class. In-School Suspension, by the way, can be what’s referred to as a Tier 2 intervention.
If you’re assigned In-School, not only do you have to do your work, not go to your locker, you don’t get to socialize, and you get escorts to the restroom. In-School Suspension is social isolation. It’s a consequence.
But you also can be in there talking about behaviors, teaching some skills, and holding kids accountable at the same time. Don’t waste their time having them sit there doing make up work.
I’ve had kids come to me and say, “I’ve got to get a couple days in the tank to make up some work.” Really? They’ll say that! Which means, “I got to get myself in trouble.”
