Behavior: what is the impact of not belonging?

Polly Bath: …the more the sense of belonging you have. Here’s what happens. That sense of belonging – by the way that’s the third base of Maslow’s Hierarchy that we learned years ago in school.

That you need food, and water, and drink, and safety and security and a relatively consistent temperature. Then you need a sense of belonging. A sense of affiliation it’s called.

If you don’t have that, you run the risk of making decisions that are risks, that will hurt you because you’re not confident. You won’t want to learn higher level learning because you’re afraid to lose, you’re afraid to fail.
