Planning: A Tool for Supporting Students & Families as They Move from Grade to Grade & Building to Building

Moving from grade to grade and building to building should be a seamless process for students with disabilities and their families. Yet these transition periods can result in increased anxiety, lost instructional time and the inadvertent enabling of students.  During this training, participants will identify potential barriers to smooth transitions and learn concrete strategies special educators and paras can use to assist students and their families during these potentially stressful times.  Strategies will include improved instruction in self-advocacy skills for students and collaboration among educators.
