Why I don’t like to send kids out of my class.

Watch this video [1:13] to learn why Polly thinks twice before sending one of her students down to the office, instead of managing their behavior herself.

As soon as I send a kid out of my class to be managed by someone else, two things happen.

One, I teach the child that I can’t handle them, but someone else can and I teach them they don’t have to change their behavior for me, but they have to change it for someone else.

Two, I get upset with the office, because I feel like the administrator didn’t do anything!

But, I have to remember, that when I send a student out, I’ve told someone else to take over for me. Whatever that person does or doesn’t do, I don’t have any control over it. It’s now THEIR decision, and I’ve asked them to make that decision.

So I’m always really careful about whether I want to send a kid out of my classroom.
