Watch this video [1:02] for what we’ve got to do to help the kid who rejects the very help he or she needs.
Often the student who needs help, but rejects it, is protecting their own vulnerability.
No child ever raises their hand in front of their peers, and says, “This is extremely difficult for me because of my language processing skills; and, since I lack social skills and you’re asking me to do a group assignment, I really need some visual stuff and some coaching through this.”
They never say that. They say, “Get away from me! I’ll do it myself!”
It’s our job to uncover the underlying factors.
