Handling impulsive kids can be difficult. Watch this video [1:00] for my tip on what I do.
Polly Bath: Impulsivity. How many of those kids do we have?
All of us have dealt with kids who are impulsive. What it really comes down to is that these kids don’t understand the concept of cause and effect.
So, we’ve got to teach them the concept: I like to teach kids to do what I call “self-talk.” I tell them, “When you’re thinking of doing something, stop and reflect on cause and effect. If you do this thing, what could happen? Is it OK? If not, don’t do it.”
It will help them to corral their impulsivity.
