Managing and Changing Difficult Classroom Behavior: A Practical, Uncomplicated Approach for Now and the Future

During the last two challenging years, the typical school day was everything BUT typical. Skills have been lost, behaviors have accelerated, many children are traumatized, and we are exhausted. But there are all those behaviors to deal with, and all those academic gaps to close. Returning to ‘normal’ has turned out to be daunting.

To move forward from this point in history, it’s time to accept our ‘audience’ with all its challenges, it’s time to not take behaviors personally, and it’s time to get our confidence back, despite today’s considerable challenges.

In this training we will focus on ‘treating’ the cause for behaviors vs the ‘symptoms’ – the surest way to bring about behavior change. Participants will learn practical, uncomplicated approaches to behavior management and intervention.

Participants will leave this session with:

  1. Ideas to build up their behavior ‘toolbox’ in today’s world so they can return to the joy of teaching.
  2. An understanding of what’s behind all these escalated behaviors, as well as techniques to address them.
  3. A clear understanding of the difference between behavior management and behavior intervention and how to make the most of each.
  4. Validation, and relief that while we can’t alleviate all difficult behaviors immediately, here’s a way to start!

Audience: General and special education teachers, school and district administrators, guidance counselors, school social workers, school adjustment counselors, school psychologists, paraprofessionals, PreK-12.
