Behavior: my cell phone rule in class

Polly Bath: I tell my students, “If you have a cell phone, take it out. Make sure you have it set on silent. Now put it on the top, right-hand corner of your desk. Leave it there so I can see it.”
Their cell phones have to be in my view at all times. At the end of class, I will allow the kids to do what they need to on their phones. But it always needs to be in my vision.
That’s the rule, the cell phone has to be where I can see it. Most of the kids are OK with this. And this way, I don’t have kids hiding behind bags the size of China, playing with their phones.
We have got to teach kids when to use these things, when not to use them, and how to use them, because they’re not going away!
You can’t just ban things. They’re not going away.
